Firefighter/EMT’s/Paramedics
York Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic and Firefighter/EMT. We currently will have one opening and an eligibility list will be completed for future openings. The application period is open until March 9th 2021 at 4:00 pm. Current salary range $41,000 to $56,600 per year for Firefighter/EMT, $44,000 to $61,500 for a Firefighter/Paramedic with a comprehensive benefit package.
The York Fire Department is a combination career and volunteer fire and rescue department. We provide advanced life support ambulance service to most of York County and fire suppression services to the City of York and the York Rural Fire District encompassing 93 square miles. Typically, the York Fire Department responds to about 1300 calls for service each year.
York Fire Department works in 3 shifts. Each shift is on duty for 24 hours and off 48 hours. Employees are required to work holidays and weekends. Wages are figured on a 53-hour workweek. There are also about 25 volunteer firefighters in the department.
The position is for an entry level Firefighter/Paramedic and or Firefighter/EMT. This is a highly skilled firefighting, emergency medical services, rescue, and fire prevention position. Duties include: Extinguish and prevent fires to protect life and property; maintains fire station equipment, apparatus, quarters, and operating equipment; provide public education. Work is performed in accordance with general supervision and written procedures, under the command of a shift captain. Currently there are no residential requirements for entry level firefighters.
Experience Required:
This is an entry level position. Firefighter 1 certification and above is a plus. Those who are paramedic students will be considered, we will require certification from their training agency. This certification must be enclosed with your application packet.
Required qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
No felony convictions or serious misdemeanor.
Be 18 years old at time of hire.
Shall be able to read and write the English language.
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record.
Current Nebraska Emergency Medical Technician License required. Current Paramedic License preferred.
Desired minimum qualifications for consideration (for those not meeting these minimum qualifications will have two years to complete):
Firefighter 1 certification, Haz Mat Operations level required in 2 years.
NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 required within 2 years of appointment.

Testing will consist of a written test and a physical agility test. Those successfully completing the written test and physical agility test will be invited to a structured interview and a possible final interview. The written test and physical agility test are being planned for the 3rd week of March, and the actual dates will be emailed to the qualified applicants.
