Independent school seeks a part-time high school Spanish teacher (.60 FTE). 

The Upper School Spanish Teacher provides instruction and supervision for students in grades 9 – 12. The individual in this position teaches and serves in a manner that advances and upholds the Mission and philosophy of Winchester Thurston School.

Following are the major responsibilities:


  • Teach three sections of Upper School Spanish.
  • Plan and execute lessons, using varied methods of instruction and assessment, that are in accord with departmental curriculum and uphold the school’s educational philosophy.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for and commitment to the school’s City as Our Campus initiative by actively seeking meaningful community connections for experiential learning opportunities within and outside the classroom.
  • Work as a team member with teaching colleagues and administrators by attending all department meetings, Upper School faculty meetings, and in-service days as well as serving on committees as needed.
  • Create and maintain an appropriate classroom environment and help enforce school rules.
  • Work on curriculum revision and program development with other world language teachers, the Chair of the World Languages Department and the Upper School Division Director.
  • Communicate regularly with parents in an effective and timely manner through a variety of means, including email, telephone, student progress reports, and parent notices.
  • Commit to ongoing professional growth through personal research, attending conferences and workshops, visiting other classes and/or schools, and integrating new skills, such as the use of technology, in the classroom.
  • Play an active role in the formative development process, which includes, but is not limited to, participating in goal setting, engaging in constant reflection with the Dean of Faculty about teaching, participation, and contribution to collaborative curricular groups, and participating in the peer observation process.
  • Fulfill duties that are connected with non-academic responsibilities, i.e. taking attendance, covering study halls and other assignments, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • A Bachelor's degree in Spanish is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience teaching Spanish, preferably in an upper school setting.
  • Strong communication skills for working effectively with colleagues and parents.
  • Ability to utilize educational technology in the classroom.
  • Educational philosophy that is consistent with that of the school.
