PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners is actively seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Public Works Director on a full-time basis.

This role, which requires high professionalism and responsibility, reports directly to the County Administrator. As part of the County's organizational structure, this position is one of ten Director level roles.

The Public Works Director holds primary accountability for overseeing and ensuring the effective functioning of various departments, including Road and Bridge, Fleet, Solid Waste Management, Sewer Utilities, Public Works construction activities, Public Works and Revenue Collections Administration, Parks, and Facilities. Presently, these departments employ approximately 44 fulltime and part-time employees. The Director exercises independent judgment in different situations and must adopt appropriate courses of action to accomplish the department's objectives. This work is carried out in diverse weather conditions. Overall, the Public Works Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all the aforementioned departments, forming the core of the Public Works Department.

To be eligible for this position, candidates must possess a bachelor's degree with significant coursework in engineering, public works, business administration, or public administration. A master's degree or an Engineering license is desirable. Demonstrated experience in managing or administering public works at a high level is required. Additionally, applicants must hold and maintain a valid Florida Driver's license and any other necessary endorsements for operating assigned vehicles. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for effectively serving others, while computer proficiency, supervisory experience, and the ability to build a cohesive team are also crucial qualifications.

This position's salary is negotiable and depends on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
