Personal Assistant to U.S. District Judge  

The U.S. District Court is currently recruiting for a Personal Assistant to U.S. District Judge. The incumbent will be responsible for the following:

• Assists the Judge in the daily tasks of performing his duties, such as carrying and organizing papers, retrieving research books, typing correspondence, opening the Judge's mail, and packing his briefcase with orders and case documents.

  • Accompanies the Judge and assists with communication for in person and telephonic meetings. Assists the Judge with screening telephone calls and email. Answers routine inquiries and provides assistance to the public as authorized, maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive matters. Inquiries come from many sources, including other judges and their staff, other court support units, other courts, members of the bar, and the media.
  • Assists the Judge with communication during hearings and conferences. Assists with communication during video and telephone conferences. Takes detailed notes during the Judge’s conferences and meetings.
  • Prepares executive correspondence, legal documents, and other materials. Assist with organizing briefs and other papers. Prints and distributes reports for the Judge.
  • Assists with programming the Judge’s computer-generated speech device.
  • Files documents, briefs, correspondence, and emails in the Judge's work files.
  • Organizes briefs for the Judge and law clerks and makes notebooks and files that the Judge uses.
  • Assists with travel arrangements for the Judge. Accompanies and assists the Judge with communication and transport when he travels within the district or out of district.

• Other duties as assigned.

Must have at least 2 years of experience in administrative/clerical work. Prior experience in a legal environment and a four-year degree is preferred. Salary is $48,890 - $77,41 DOE w/ full benefits.
