The University of Virginia Center Health System located in Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks a Laboratory Specialist. This position will provide technical lab support by performing complex lab and research related tasks. The incumbent will act as a specialist on research methods and equipment functions specific to investigations. The Laboratory Specialist performs complex experiments supporting the research protocols, including maintaining a mouse colony and planning and implementing breeding schemes. Perform literature searches and present findings at meetings; order lab supplies; and clean and maintain equipment. Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related science and a minimum of one year of laboratory experience using molecular biology, immunology, and genetic approaches to address relevant scientific experiments, including experience with the following: performing neurological survival surgery in neonatal rodents (postnatal, 10 days or less), acquiring and analyzing neurophysiological data under Grasstelefactor and Labchart Pro Software, and familiarity with Hypoxic Chambers and required monitoring. Experience gained while as a student will be considered.
