Research Instructor - Bioinformatics. Position Number 01203875. Responsible for developing and maintaining bioinformatics infrastructure to support genomic research being conducted at KUMC and its affiliates. Participate in both the development and instruction of courses in bioinformatics and related areas. PhD or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology w/Bioinformatics emphasis or a related field. 1 yr. exp. w/following: NextGen sequencing technology & data analysis tools; programming in at least 1 higher-level language (C, C++, Java) & w/scripting languages (Python, Ruby, Perl, UNIX shell scripting); processing & analysis of ‘omic data types (e.g., genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic, etc.); creating bioinformatics pipelines; & working within LINUX/UNIX environment. Ability in R statistical programming language. Knowledge of informatics & bioinformatics resources available online preferred (NCBI, ENCODE, analysis tools, applications). Ability in the use of informatics computing, scripting languages, bioinformatics applications, data management packages. Ability to work as an independent consulting informatics specialist on projects. Review of applications begins immediately and continues until position is filled.
Database Administrators. Position Number J0084529. Design & support complex scientific research database collection methodologies for basic & clinical research studies. Install & test new versions of the database management system (DBMS). MS in CS or other IT-related field. 2 yr. exp. in an academic or private health-related research environment, working w/database migration, database development, database maintenance performance tuning & optimization, setting up & managing database connections, & automation of ETL process between databases. 2 yrs. exp. with: software integration using LDAP, Active directory; working w/electronic medical record data using EPIC, Cerner or similar system. Knowledge of PL/SQL, SQL functions, triggers, complex queries, SQL reports; relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL; operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and UNIX.
