Position Summary

This position promotes healthy and safe child care by assisting with program policy development and implementation of quality health, safety, and nutrition practices in early care and education settings. This position provides coaching, training, and resources to child care directors and providers, families, and regional and statewide partners.

Responsibilities

 

Job Duty Function Support health and safety policies and practices in child care programs by:
Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Providing coaching support within team meetings, on-site visits, telephone calls, or e-mail;
• Assisting child care providers and families with planning for individual children’s health, safety and nutritional needs;
• Providing health, safety and nutrition training to child care providers, program directors and families;
• Attending regional team meetings to plan for and support individual child care providers and child care programs;
• Interpreting national health and safety standards, child care licensing requirements, ICCP regulations, and accreditation requirements related to health and safety;
• Understanding and observing confidentiality practices;
• Collecting and recording program specific data;
• Collaborating with regional health inspectors and other regulatory partners;
• Maintaining current licensure and liability insurance.

Responsibilities

 

Job Duty Function Develop and support use of health, safety and nutrition resources by:
Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Participating in statewide CCHC Community of Practice;
• Attending IdahoSTARS Annual Summit, conference calls, video conferences and other organized meetings;
• Providing community health resource and referral information;
• Developing or identifying regional and statewide health and safety resources.

• Attending all CDHD staff meetings

Position Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications

• Education: Must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a health related field.

• Experience related to early care and education:

- Health and safety standards in child care
- Injury prevention for children
- Oral health of children
- Inclusion of children with special health care needs in child care settings
- Safe medication administration
- Safe sleep practices and policies
- Immunization schedules for children
- State health laws, federal and state education laws, and state professional practice acts for licensed professionals

• Working on an interdisciplinary team.
• Developing and implementing health and safety policies.
• Conducting adult workshops/training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed health professional with education and experience in child and community health.
• Knowledge of developmental screening tools and procedures for use.
• Specialized training in child care health consulting.
• Endorsement in Early Childhood Mental Health.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
