Position Description
The University of Toledo seeks a dynamic leader with the vision and interpersonal skills to guide UToledo Music in reimagining its program to meet the challenges and opportunities of music performing and teaching in the 21st century. The Chair is the administrative officer and academic leader of the department and reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters. The Chair, working with the Dean of Arts and Letters, President and Provost, will have the opportunity to hire new faculty, and shape and enhance the Department of Music. Responsibilities include administration and development of academic and performance aspects of the Department, budget and resource allocation, supervise full-time faculty and part-time instructors, fund raising and external development, representation of the Department within the University and the community, as well as recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty and students. The appointment as Chair includes teaching one course per semester.
Qualifications:
Terminal degree in music is required. Demonstrated administrative skills and collaborative leadership experience is necessary. For tenure, the candidate must have a record of excellence in teaching and professional activity/performance. Candidates should be student oriented and able to work collaboratively with the faculty of the department, University administration and other groups within and outside the University.
While not required, applicants with a proven history of attracting grants and contracts are encouraged to apply. In addition, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates whose research focuses on underrepresented populations and/or who have experience mentoring underrepresented minority students.
