The Town of Vail Building Department is seeking a qualified individual to join their team.The position will perform code compliance inspections and reviews for all new construction, renovation, alteration, addition and repair projects within the community.Candidate must hold and maintain a State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electricians License. Candidate must be a quick learner and willing to cross-train for performing inspections on other trade disciplines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Interprets the National Electrical Code and other building codes adopted by the town to ensure intent and compliance are met.
- Performs electrical, plumbing, mechanical, building and related inspections of commercial and residential construction projects to ensure code compliance.
- Performs commercial and residential electrical plan reviews to verify that drawings for new construction, renovations, alterations, additions and repairs are code compliant, as needed.
- Investigates complaints and citizen requests on construction and posts Stop Work Orders and Dangerous Building notices, as required.
- Identifies potentially unsafe or illegal conditions at construction sites and reports findings to the Chief Building Official.
- May schedule daily inspection requests on active building, planning, and public works permits.
- Supports the team-driven concepts of the division and department and willingly participates in team functions, meetings and activities.
- Serves the citizens and guests of the Town of Vail by abiding by all Town of Vail core values.
- Performs job in accordance with all Town of Vail safety practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills / Requirements
The ideal candidate for this position must have the ability to prepare and present documents pertaining to construction and code related issues, solid knowledge of accepted electrical and construction industry standards and procedures, ability to read and understand construction drawings and highly technical documents relating to electrical codes, building codes, construction specifications, and standards.
Education, Experience and Certificates
- High school diploma and a minimum of four (4) years experience in code enforcement/compliance, construction, project management, or a closely related technical field.
- Hold and maintain a valid State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
- Certification as Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector and Mechanical Inspector through the International Code Council required, or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
- Certification as Electrical Plans Examiner and Building Inspector through the International Code Council preferred, or ability to obtain within 30 months of hire.
- Hold and maintain a valid State of Colorado driver’s license.
