Parks & Recreation Director
An employee in this class performs a variety of administrative and professional duties in the management of all parks and recreation activities and facilities for the Town. The employee develops and plans work operations; researches programs and facilities to meet community needs and interests and projects program growth and development; develops new and modifies existing policies and procedures; supervises day-to-day activities through program supervisors including the selection, training, appraisal, and supervision of regular and contracted staff and seasonal workers. Work requires extensive public contact with private groups, civic organizations, local officials, and the general public in the promotion, development, and maintenance of the parks and recreation program. Employee is subject to hazards in parks and recreation work including working in both inside and outside environments. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Town Manager and reviewed through periodic conferences, reports, and results. Desirable Education and Experience include a Bachelor’s degree from and accredited college or university in recreation administration, physical education or related field and considerable experience in the management of a municipal recreation program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. NCRPA certification preferred. Possession or ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and Certified Playground Inspector certifications. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Hiring salary $47,908.11.
