Recruitment Notice: Inspectional Services Code Enforcement Officer
The Town of Adams Inspectional Services Department is currently accepting applications for a Code Enforcement Officer position. Successful candidate will interpret, enforce, and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local health codes and regulations. Conducts inspections; Investigates and takes actions relative to complaints of alleged violations of laws, regulations and local bylaws including housing and vacant properties, lead paint, asbestos, Title V/Septic, restaurants and other food handling establishments. Assists in the investigations of food-borne illness, responds to public health emergencies, conducts sampling and performs for laboratory tests and analyses. Prepares reports, issues orders and other enforcement methods for non-compliance, including court complaints and testifies in court as required. Provides education and assists in development of programs and procedures regarding environmental sanitation and public health and safety. Assists development of new regulations in compliance with federal and state regulations and works with the Board of Health to investigate and resolve public health issues.
Two or more years' experience or Associate's Degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Public Safety, or related social-services or social-science field, plus five years responsible experience in building construction or design required. Current active certifications or ability to become certified within eighteen months of hiring in Serve-Safe and Allergen-Awareness, Housing Code Enforcement, Lead Paint Determination, Title V/Septic, Soil Evaluation, Water Sampling, Asbestos Detection. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and public relations skills, including conflict resolution required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and other computer software. Soil evaluation and legal court proceeding experience desired. Must possess and maintain a Valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
