Education Reporter
The Florida Times-Union is looking for an education reporter who can cover a mix of trends, issues, breaking news and watchdog stories on education topics of importance to Northeast Florida, with a focus on Duval County schools, including district-run, charter and private schools. This reporter will also tackle stories about other nearby school districts and higher education institutions as time permits and news warrants. This reporter will be expected to tackle complex issues, spot trends and hold local officials accountable. This reporter will need to come up with his or her own story ideas and also be able to juggle those with ones assigned by editors. This reporter will work as part of a team of reporters and will cover other local issues, including crime, government and features as needed and adjust priorities as breaking news warrants. This reporter will be active in promoting his/her own stories on social media and engage with readers to answer additional questions. This reporter will coordinate well with editors, photographers, digital producers and other reporters to help produce great journalism.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferred. Two years of experience at a daily news operation. Extensive internship experience will be considered. Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills a must. Knowledge of AP Style. Multi-media experience preferred. Strong writing and reporting skills required. Must have excellent conflict resolution skills. Must be able to work in a team environment and adapt quickly to tight deadlines. Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license and current automobile insurance.
