The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking a Communications Specialist to assist with implementing strategic outreach marketing and public relations. This position will interact professionally, collaboratively, and strategically with all departments of VEDP and external stakeholders, engaging and leveraging resources support where viable to accomplish the department's goals, and providing relevant contribution and support to enable VEDP to attain its organizational objectives and mission.
The Communications Specialist must have impeccable writing and editing skills. Knowledge of public and media relations techniques is required, and experience with AP writing style is expected. The successful applicant will assist the Communications Director with coordinating economic development press release announcements and events with companies, local and regional partners, and the Governor's Office. Duties include media monitoring and tracking of pertinent coverage; building and managing media lists; drafting press releases, quotes, and event briefings; drafting speeches/talking points; researching and drafting content for website case studies; drafting feature articles and surveys as needed; and editing copy. The candidate will also support VEDP's media relations and promotion of target industries.
This position requires solid organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, professional rapport to interact with stakeholders and high-level company executives, and the ability to work well under pressure within tight deadlines. At least one year of marketing or public relations experience is required. An undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field is required. A valid driver's license is required.
Hiring range: $42,000-$55,000, commensurate with experience.
