Environmental Health Scientist

Summit County, located in Utah, is seeking an Environmental Health Scientist who wants to make a difference in a region that takes pride in our Public Health programs. Responsibilities include a variety of technical duties related to the monitoring, inspecting, and regulating of county-wide environmental conditions and influences to assure compliance with state, federal, and local environmental quality laws, regulations, and guidelines. Some knowledge required of regulations governing food quality and safety, air quality, water quality, radiation monitoring, waste water, and hazardous waste, general and standard laboratory procedures, instruments, measurements, and terminology, hazards associated with various chemicals, equipment, organic and inorganic substances, the nature and causes of various communicable diseases and other diseases linked to environmental conditions. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, make basic decisions where established procedures do not always apply, perform complex mathematical computations, operate personal computer and apply various program applications such as Word and Excel, develop effective working relationships with professional health care personnel, elected officials, administrators, and the public. Works under the general supervision of the Environmental Health (EH) Director or EH Scientist III. May hire an EH I, II, or III depending on submitted qualifications and experience.

Environmental Health Scientist I Salary Range: $22.75 - $31.86/hour

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited. College or University with Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Health Physics, Biological Science, or other related fields. No experience necessary. Must become registered Environmental Health Scientist withing 18 months from date of hire. Must become certified as an inspector in various aspects of environmental health management through established professional organizations, state and federal, including air quality (opacity), asbestos, radon gas, water quality sampling and testing, hazardous waste. Must complete and maintain EPA hazardous waste training (40 hour course).

Environmental Health Scientist II Salary Range: $27.09 - $37.94/hour
