JOB GOAL

To coordinate services and supports for students, as provided by the school district or outside agencies, to enable students with exceptionalities to access appropriate educational services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts educational assessments to assist with identification or verification of atypical students using education tests, classroom observations and teacher consultations.
  • Participates in parent conferences, Individualized Education Program (IEP) conferences, pre-hearing conferences, and administrative hearings as requested.
  • Functions as a Multi-disciplinary (MDT) and IEP team member for the purpose of developing appropriate student programs for assigned students. Assists with the development of IEPs for initial special education placements.
  • Consults and provides in-service training and assistance to district staff including but not limited to inclusive practices, collaboration, planning, and co-teaching, classroom management techniques such as behavior modification, classroom design, classroom structure, classroom planning, implementation of special education programs, services, procedures, and strategies for teaching atypical students. Consults and provides in-service training and assistance to teachers on methods for conducting education assessments using such techniques as curriculum-based assessment.
  • Assists teachers with developing and implementing transition plans.
  • Teaches lessons and/or demonstrates specific techniques, for use with atypical students, to regular and special education teachers, as requested.
  • Assists with the completion of processes related to in-state and out-of-state transfers to the district. Assists with management of caseloads. Serves as Local Educational Agency representative as assigned. Coordinates support services with IU 20 and other outside agencies. Coordinates the scheduling of and attends meetings for out of district placements.
  • Assists both regular and special education teachers with delivery of effective instruction.
  • Provides training for special education paraprofessionals. Provides training for parents of children with disabilities. Provides support for new special education teachers.
  • Provides evidence of professional growth and development by keeping current in the field.
  • Assists staff with determining the need for and utilization of assistive technology.
  • Assists staff in developing and maintaining progress monitoring systems.
  • Assists with management of teacher caseloads.
  • Serves as case manager for students with IEPs as assigned.
  • Provides assistance with functional behavioral assessments and the development of behavior management plans.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Performs in accordance with school policy, administrative regulations, state and federal laws.
