Operating Engineer 1
The New Jersey Department of the Treasury, Division of Property Management and Construction seeks an Operating Engineer 1 to take the lead in the operation and maintenance of boilers, engines, turbines, motors, generators and auxiliary equipment used in power and heating plants.
The Operating Engineer will make minor and emergency repairs to various types of generators and motors, feed and vacuum pumps, feed conveyors, blowers, and automatic stokers; conduct periodic comprehensive tests and take readings of fuel consumption, pressure, draft conditions, temperatures and steam flow, and other recordings as necessary; report fuel and water consumption and report excessive usage; receive, store, safeguard, record, and supervise the use of equipment, materials, and supplies; maintain the records and files of the power plant; inspect piping and equipment for problems and make necessary repairs; ensure safe, efficient operation and maintenance of power and heating plants and related equipment during an emergency and/or equipment failure; perform other related duties, as required.
SALARY: $48,830.38 - $68,696.71. A comprehensive benefits package is offered.
SHIFT INFORMATION: Saturday – Wednesday, 12:00AM – 8:00 AM, with Thursday and Friday as regular days off.
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years’ experience in work involving the operation and repair of stationary steam boilers and auxiliary equipment of a power plant or high-pressure heating plant.
LICENSE: Appointees must possess an appropriate Operating Engineer's license (Blue Seal minimum) of the appropriate grade, issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor.
LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the positions.
