The Spokesman-Review is seeking a full-time Online Developer to create and maintain website front-ends using a combination of template languages and HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Basic understanding of design tools (eg. Adobe suite) and the ability to work with existing assets to translate design concepts to a web environment. Help build and maintain a web infrastructure using server side technologies such as the Python programming language, the Django Framework and PostgreSQL database. Respond to technical issues by troubleshooting, fixing and deploying code on short notice. Build web-based tools that help our journalists to better tell their stories. Moderate ability to deal effectively with customers — internal and external — is required. Must be able to listen effectively, understand customer concerns and requests in order to pass information to another for resolution. May resolve routine customer concerns and respond to routine requests.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree; or an Associate’s degree with 2 years related experience.
- Journalism experience preferred
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
