Purpose: The Health Program Specialist 2 (HPS2) is part of the Healthy Communities team and is responsible for engaging African American/Black residents, organizations, churches, and businesses as well as other organizations and systems in Spokane to help improve health in the African American/Black community. Health is defined broadly and includes the social determinants of health. Based on funding sources, some priority areas for improving health will include cardiovascular disease and related risk behaviors and HIV and STD prevention. Other issues will be prioritized by the community. This position requires a high level of autonomy with good decision-making skills. This position is expected to identify and resolve most problems, referring and discussing the usual/complex problems with the program manager.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Community Health, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, Cultural Studies or closely related field. Master’s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education, experience and professional certification may be considered provided the individual’s background demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.
- Three years directly related experience with one in community mobilization or organizing. Two years’ experience with Master’s degree, including one-year community mobilization or organizing.
