This position manages the Southwest Initiative Foundation's (SWIF) daily philanthropy work, including regional fundraising to meet organizational needs and planned giving programs. The Philanthropy Manager will implement the annual fundraising plan; design, develop and evaluate a variety of fundraising campaigns and strategies; and develop and implement a donor stewardship plan that builds and maintains strong donor relationships. The Philanthropy Manager works directly with SWIF staff, donors and donor prospects and consultant partners when appropriate.

Major Responsibilities:

* Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals through a relationship with Southwest Initiative Foundation
* Design and develop a variety of fundraising campaigns to meet organizational needs—including strategies, content development, creative concept, list segmentation, research, interviews and project management; design tools and reporting that tracks and evaluates progress-to-goal
* Design, lead and coordinate the Staff Giving Campaign, achieving 100 percent participation annually and in a way that builds a culture of philanthropy
* Design, lead and coordinate the annual campaign for units of government—including content development, visit strategy, invoicing and stewardship
* Develop and coordinate the production of donor-related print pieces, including impact reports, thank-you messages, case statements and more
* Design and implement donor stewardship and moves management plan, utilizing organizational systems to automate processes; implement a prospect research function
* Execute the planned giving marketing program, including website management, mail, and e-mail campaigns and event planning; manage Legacy Society member list
* Utilize systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including Salesforce and wealth screening tools; populate and update constituent data as appropriate
* Record interactions, contacts, and moves for donors and donor prospects in accordance with department guidelines
* Equip staff to ensure accurate and timely processing of donor contributions
* May solicit and close gifts of all sizes
* Monitor trends in giving that impact fundraising strategies and techniques
* Participate in internal staff functions, meetings, and events; professionally and accurately represent SWIF to donors, donor prospects, professional advisors and other stakeholders
* Develop reports for SWIF Board of Directors as requested
* Serve on appropriate committees, boards, and other work teams, as appropriate
* Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

* Excellent communication, storytelling, and project management skills, including developing plans, meeting deadlines and staying on budget; highly organized
* Strong knowledge of the donor development process including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; ability to identify automation opportunities in a relational context
* Strong knowledge of the nonprofit sector, fundraising, and IRS requirements; working knowledge of gifts other than cash planned giving vehicles and the charitable tax deduction
* Ability to take initiative, work independently and manage time effectively; strong critical thinking skills
* Ability to identify target audiences and develop compelling messages for those audiences; ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate Southwest Initiative * Foundation's mission, vision, work, and value proposition
* Strong knowledge of CRM systems and Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word; ability to learn and adapt to new technologies
* Accuracy and attention to detail
* Experience with graphic design and print production
* Ability to lift 20 pounds

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree and 4-5 years of professional experience related to project management, fundraising and/or marketing/communications. Excellent writing skills are required; some experience with graphic design and print production preferred. Ability to automate processes in a Salesforce CRM environment a plus. Enthusiasm and commitment for southwest Minnesota's people, communities and rural philanthropy are essential. Must have a current driver's license and an insured personal vehicle. This position may travel one day per week, primarily within the southwest Minnesota region.
