South Fayette Township School District is seeking a Middle School Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Elementary or Secondary Principal’s Certification
5 or more years of teaching experience
3.0 or higher QPA
Proof of ongoing professional development or educational experience
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Computer literacy
Knowledgeable about curriculum

Expertise in middle level educational issues
JOB GOAL:

To develop, implement and maintain an educational program which meets the needs of all students enrolled in the middle school

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction and Assessment:
1. Establishing goals for each school year
2. Reviewing progress toward goals at an annual meeting with the Superintendent
3. Implementing the Department of Education regulations, district goals and policies, and objectives of South Fayette School District and South Fayette Middle School
4. Supervising and evaluating all professional staff members
5. Conferencing with each staff member following each observation
6. Preparing a written summary of the observations and the conferences and providing it to each staff member
7. Observing all non-tenured faculty members four times per school year and complete a midyear and end-of-year evaluation for these faculty members
8. Preparing and being able to support the PDE annual evaluation for all professional staff
9. Conducting Walk Through classroom visitations on a regular basis
10.Monitoring teacher lesson plans
11.Providing staff members with strategies for improving their teaching methodologies
12.Creating a working environment that encourages positive staff morale
13.Meeting with the professional teams on a regular basis to assess the needs, progress, and concerns related to each grade level as well as building concerns
14.Ensuring that the staff is following District policies and procedures regarding the instructional process
15.Keeping staff informed of current educational trends
16.Screening and interviewing prospective candidates for vacant positions through initial screening of all applications, conducting of and evaluating first round interviews, conducting and evaluating second round interviews, and participating with the Superintendent in the final interview session
17.Recommending the best candidates to fill vacancies
18.Ensuring that the district curriculum is being followed in the classroom and that teachers are regularly and fairly evaluating students by means of tests, quizzes, projects, and other forms of meaningful assessment that focus on performance
19.Ensuring all grade level faculty are using the same major assessments
20.Ensuring PA Eligible Content and Academic Standards help drive instruction
21.Supervising the inventory of instructional materials and insuring that adequate instructional materials are available for each class to function properly
22.Working to continually improve the achievement of all students
23.Supervising the scheduling for standardized testing
24.Meeting with the staff to interpret test results and implement strategies to use data effectively to improve achievement
25.Making sound decisions about personnel in developing the master schedule
26.Assigning appropriate staff to subject areas and to non-instructional assignments
27.Providing input on course offerings based upon enrollment
28.Balancing the class size when feasible
29.Providing for the full use of facilities
30.Minimizing the number of conflicts in the scheduling process
31.Completing the scheduling process in a timely fashion
Program Support
32.Maintaining a presence in the building throughout the day to assure a safe and orderly environment in the building
33.Counseling students whose behavior is disruptive in the classroom, school environment, or transportation situations
34.Being available to the staff when a problem situation arises
35.Disciplining students whose behavior is disruptive to the classroom or violates school or district policies and procedures
36.Conferencing with parents, teachers, and students regarding disciplinary actions
37.Monitoring student and class attendance, including truancies
38.Enforcing attendance policies
39.Updating the Parent-Student Handbook regularly
40.Assuring that all students have access to the Parent-Student Handbook, in print and/or electronically
41.Assisting, in conjunction with the Director of Pupil Personnel, with attendance at IEP conferences, and teaming with the Director of Pupil Personnel, the School Psychologist, parents and students in developing and implementing an appropriate educational program for students with disabilities
42.Assisting, in conjunction with the Director of Pupil Personnel, with attendance at GIEP conferences, and teaming with the Director of Pupil Personnel, the School Psychologist, parents and students in developing and implementing an appropriate educational program for students who have been identified as Gifted
43.Monitoring Special Education classes in conjunction with the Director of Pupil Personnel and providing guidance and support for these programs
44.Overseeing the performance of substitute teachers
45.Conducting fire drills at least once a month during the school year
46.Conducting a severe weather drill annually, as well as other drills as outlined in the Crisis Manual
47.Overseeing the overall operation of the building on a daily basis
48.Maintaining a safe and secure facility for all staff and students
49.Completing special projects as requested by the Superintendent
50.Updating the Faculty Handbook on an annual basis and reviewing the handbook with faculty members
51.Monitoring that faculty follow board policy and school procedures and routines as set forth in the Faculty Handbook and in school district board policy
52.Overseeing the eligibility of athletes who compete in the athletic programs of the school district
53.Monitoring the eligibility of students who participate in extracurricular activities
54.Monitoring proper amount of supervision at middle school-sponsored events
55.Providing follow-up on Health Department, Fire Department, and/or Labor and Industry inspections made of the building
56.Posting of all available positions for student activity sponsors
57.Overseeing that students from activities represent the school in the proper manner
58.Monitoring fundraisers by student groups
59.Encouraging projects that highlight volunteerism and community service

74.Preparing the building budget and monitoring expenditures throughout the school year
75.Facilitating the distribution of instructional materials to the appropriate staff members
Home, School, and Community Relations
76.Responding to parent inquiries via phone, e-mail, or mail in a prompt and timely manner
77.Keeping parents informed of student attendance, classroom behavior, academic progress, and student achievement
78.Assure that an annual Awards Assembly occurs
79.Keeping parents informed of school events and activities through regular communication (email distribution lists, announcements, newsletters, webpage, etc.)
80.Meeting with parents at PAC scheduled meetings
81.Encouraging staff and students to develop a sense of South Fayette pride and spirit
82.Providing leadership in dealing with community needs, problems, and concerns regarding the school
83.Presenting a positive image of South Fayette Middle School when information is solicited by the media
Recordkeeping
84.Supervising the preparation of report cards and Interim Reports throughout the year
85.Completing the annual PDE form for all professional staff
86.Maintaining permanent record cards, discipline files, health records, and special education records for students in a secure and confidential manner
Professional Responsibilities
87.Demonstrating computer literacy by providing all correspondence and written documentation using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel/Access)
88.Demonstrating computer literacy in using the administrative software program effectively to maintain and retrieve student information and attendance data (SASI XP)
89.Checking and responding to e-mail and voice mail daily
90.Maintaining professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities
TERMS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Term of employment is 12 months and is in accordance with the Act 93 Agreement between administrators and the South Fayette Township School District.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent.
