PATROL DEPUTY
The Routt County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a full-time Patrol Deputy to perform law enforcement, crime prevention and related work, including routine support activities necessary to the function of Patrol Deputy.

Welcome to the Routt County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office is responsible for law enforcement, investigations, and detentions within Routt County, Colorado. We work hand-in-hand with community members to provide protection and service to our community as a whole. We strive to provide the highest qualified law enforcement officers and maintain their skills through ongoing training in the latest law enforcement practices. Routt County is a large area, covering 2,231 square miles.

High school diploma, minimum 60 semester hours or higher level education, or a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS - The following requirements must be passed:
- Physical fitness test
- Doctor’s physical
- Psychological evaluation
- Background investigation
- Written test
- Public speaking
- Report writing
- Oral Board review
- Complete 8 to 16 week F.T.O Program with 3 or more written tests and numerous practical test
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
At a minimum, a Patrol Deputy will possess a valid Colorado Certified Peace Officer P.O.S.T. certification, CPR/First Aid certification and hold a Driver’s License in order to operate a County vehicle.
KEY DUTIES
- Apply knowledge and reasoning to make prompt and effective decisions
- Pursue fleeing suspects and perform rescue operations and other duties
- Respond to calls for public safety services
- Apply appropriate interview and interrogation techniques
- Determine whether incidents are criminal or civil in nature by evaluating pertinent information.
- Determine priority of actions to be taken at the scene and determine proper preliminary investigative procedures to apply and necessary assistance required.
- Conduct structure searches, protect scene, locate, identify, gather and preserve evidence and property.
- Possess thorough knowledge and use proper implementation of law enforcement procedures and techniques gained
- Approach and detain suspects; make arrests; restrain and subdue suspects
- Apply appropriate safety precautions in hazardous and potentially dangerous situations; maintain a safe position when dealing with suspects.
- Explain procedures, laws, complaints, etc.; provide assistance and information to the public; advise victims, complainants, violators, etc.; mediate disputes; effectively control crowds.
- Prepare accurate, legible and pertinent reports (written and tape-recorded), memos, citations, activity logs, etc.; summarize statements from victims, witnesses, complainants, etc.
- Operate patrol vehicle under routine and emergency conditions in all types of weather conditions both day and night.
- Maintain patrol equipment; participate in briefings.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of department policies, regulations and procedures
- Cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to investigation of crimes
- Serve and execute warrants, subpoenas and civil documents.
- Participate in austere Search and Rescue operations.
- Respond to Wildland Fires and participate in evacuations or investigations.
- Investigate skier accidents, snowmobile accidents and other recreational vehicle/activity accidents.
- Adhere to the recognized Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.
- Respond to subpoenas to appear in court to testify on behalf of either the prosecuting attorney or defense attorney regardless of time of day or days off.
