POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position completes assessments to determine the validity of a referral to Human Services regarding abuse or neglect of a child, adolescent, or adult. This position partners with families where abuse, neglect, or delinquency concerns are present to provide supportive services. This support may include referrals to local resources, support, treatment, permanency, and adult services planning. When court intervention and out of home placement are necessary, the Caseworker supports children and the family through case management services. This position also serves to recruit and certify homes to provide care to children/adolescents when they cannot remain home. This position provides education to our community partners through awareness events and outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in a human behavioral science field and two years of professional casework experience acquired after the degree in a public or private human services agency. A Master’s Degree in a related field with two years, paid professional post graduate experience is preferred.
- Successful participation in all state and County required training, including all CORE Training.
- A combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.
KEY DUTIES:
- Provide individual or family crisis intervention services on an ongoing basis to children/adolescents who are experiencing significant problems.
- Utilize home or office visits to provide services.
- Provide and maintain client records; complete required state/federal forms and reports.
- Screen and investigate abuse or neglect allegations of children/adolescents. Make collateral contacts with community resources such as the court, law enforcement, probation, mental health, and medical personnel to obtain additional information on families. Determine appropriateness of ongoing services after the investigation through an extensive assessment process. Determine if child/adolescent is in need of out of home placement in the most appropriate and least restrictive setting. Make referrals. Provide family preservation services. Demonstrate effective utilization management skills.
- Screen, investigate and intervene with, or on the behalf of, at-risk adults to correct or alleviate situations in which actual or imminent danger of abuse, neglect, exploitation (herein known as mistreatment), or self-neglect exists and to utilize support systems to provide continuing safety from the incident(s) of mistreatment or self-neglect.
- Provide on-call response and respond to emergency situations during and after working hours when on call. Complete juvenile intake screening process for adolescent(s) who have been arrested, taking into consideration community safety and least restrictive placement options. Coordinate with the District’s SB-94 Coordinator in regard to juvenile case planning.
- Attend and testify at court hearings, confer with attorneys, children/adolescents, parents, witnesses and significant others in regard to legal proceedings. Gather and consolidate background and present information in a written report as documentation for court hearings.
- Provide case management services, including but not limited to, client transportation to appointments; supervise visitations between children/adolescents and parents; teach life and parenting skills to families. Responsible for effective management of assigned caseload.
- Recruit and certify foster and foster-adopt families for the County.
- Provide a venue for a support group for these parents.
- Investigate alleged abuse/neglect of adults and provide adult protective services.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License
- CBI and FBI Background Screen
- Screening through child abuse and neglect database (Trails)
