A diesel mechanic, also known as a diesel service technician, inspects, diagnoses, and repairs diesel-powered vehicles and machines. Their responsibilities include:
- Reading work orders: Understanding the work required for each vehicle
- Consulting with customers: Explaining the repair process and answering questions
- Planning work procedures: Using technical manuals and charts
- Inspecting vehicles: Checking the engine, transmission, steering, brakes, and other parts
- Running diagnostic tests: Identifying mechanical problems through test results
- Repairing or replacing parts: Fixing malfunctioning components
- Performing basic maintenance: Changing oil, rotating tires, and checking fluid levels
- Test-driving vehicles: Ensuring everything is working properly
- Keeping records: Keeping detailed records of all vehicles serviced
- Maintaining the workplace: Keeping the work area clea
