The North Plains Groundwater Conservation District is seeking a Conservation Outreach Specialist.

The North Plains Groundwater Conservation District located in Dumas, Texas, is charged with conserving, protecting and preserving the Ogallala aquifer and other groundwater resources here in the northern Texas Panhandle. Through our board-implemented water conservation rules, educational programs and District-provided field services, we hope to better serve the stakeholders of the District.

Basic Function:

This position is responsible for performing district communications and education duties and providing support for grants related to conservation programs.

General Description:

The position will handle basic and complex public relations and education responsibilities including coordinating public relations efforts with local, regional and national media; advertising placement; representing the district at community events and trade shows; presenting conservation education to all ages and audiences; as well as creating press releases, newsletter articles, and educational materials. The COS will coordinate the organization’s social media activities, assist with the planning and execution of three annual Water Education Festivals for 800+ students, and contribute to audio/visual projects. Responsibilities will also include other duties as assigned.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and training, a valid Texas driver’s license and a good driving record are required. Proficiency in the following skill areas: Event Planning, Writing for Publication, Writing for Broadcast, Social Media, Hootsuite, Public Speaking, Audio Production, Video Production, Adobe Creative Cloud, Constant Contact, PowerPoint, Clippings Service, Administrative/Clerical and Microsoft Office. Possess the ability to work with little direct supervision; must have the ability to work well with district staff and groups or individuals with diverse interests.

Physical Requirements:

Job performance may require: occasional lifting of items generally not exceeding 50 pounds; considerable walking, standing, stooping, and bending; some occasional irregular work hours and occasional long workdays seldom amounting to more than 50 hours in one workweek, and low to moderate levels of stress.  Job is performed primarily in an indoor/office environment with short times in the field.

Salary Range

$30,000-$50,000, commensurate with experience.
