Research Assistant/Intern
Duties generally consist of:
Collecting field samples and making scientific measurements; preparing environmental samples for radiological and non-radiological analyses; performing routine quantitative or qualitative radiological and/or chemical analytical tests according to standard procedures; maintaining and setting up scientific equipment for use in laboratories and field settings; ensures proper operation of equipment and reports operating deficiencies to supervisor; enters scientific data into center-wide databases, reviews data reports for errors; assists with verification and validation of scientific data; assists in the ordering, care, maintenance, and utilization of departmental equipment, supplies, and inventory; assists with the surveying of laboratories on a routine basis for radiological contamination; assists with the shipping and receiving of radioactive materials; assists with the maintenance and calibration of radiation safety equipment; assists with the measurement, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory safety systems such as fume hoods and glove boxes; performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
