DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Under general supervision of a department head or office manager, supervises and/or applies bookkeeping principles to the keeping of specialized or complex accounts where transactions recorded are variable and require the exercise of judgment, together with the performance of related office functions.
DUTIES-EXAMPLES OF WORK
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Prepares and posts vouchers and journals; runs trial balances; checks invoices and prepares warrants for payment; reconciles bank accounts and balances check registers; maintains files of financial records; tracks funds invested; maintains current records of funds and custody receipts of funds in banks; prepares periodic financial reports; processes purchase orders and work orders; prepares summaries and special reports; distributes charges and revenues to accounts; maybe responsible for daily banking; may purchase janitorial supplies; maintains depreciation schedules of capital assets; may supervise a small number of clerical personnel; advises other clerical personnel; carries out a limited amount of typing, filing and general office work; enters into and retrieves data from a computer using Windows-based applications or applications specific to the host department; verifies and proofs data runs; assists in budget preparation and projections; works with auditor to maintain appropriate double entry procedures.
OTHER DUTIES: Performs other duties as assigned.
Considerable knowledge of modern methods as well as accounting and 4V bookkeeping principles.
Working knowledge of data processing procedures and their interrelation to the host departments functions.
Ability to adapt spreadsheets to program needs.
Ability to type at the rate of 50 WPM.
Ability to perform difficult arithmetic procedures.
Ability to effectively manage time and work production with accuracy.
Ability to lead other personnel.
Ability to perform sedentary physical work and to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, climb, kneel, grasp, reach, push and perform similar body movements.
Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to use office and computer equipment including operating a vehicle in some positions.
Ability to talk and hear in person and by telephone; ability to see and read instructions, documents, financial printouts and characters on a computer monitor.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials and the public.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school including courses in bookkeeping, accounting, business, and related courses, and a minimum of four years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and general office work involving data processing; a two year associate course in accounting is desirable and maybe substituted for three years of experience. Demonstrable competency in using Microsoft Windows 98 and Office 2000, or newer, including Word, Excel and Access.

*Salary Range: $18.55 (per hour) to $27.25 (per hour)
