Job Description: Supervise campers and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Head Counselor and Camp Director.  Kiddie Keep Well Camp offers a coed summer residential camp program for children ages 7-11.  Our campers typically stay for two weeks during the summer.  MUST LIVE ON THE PROPERTY WHILE CMAP IS IN SESSION.

The camp counselor is responsible for providing support and helping maintain staff coverage for summer camp programs. Camp Counselors will be assigned to a particular cabin but are invaluable to our team in that have the opportunity to serve every camper, each cabin counselor, and program area with some of the behind-scenes responsibilities.  

  • Responsible for overseeing the well-being of all campers and providing an environment fostering health and safety for campers, especially regarding.
    • Camper behavior, including physical, emotional, sexual, or verbal abuse of others.
    • Common health ailments (such as coughing, sniffles, fever, rashes, blisters, bug bites, etc.)
    • Maintaining appropriate hygiene, sleep, diet, and hydration
  • Role model and maintain standards for your program that is safe, creative, fun, and educational including managing activity supervision and ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Assist in facilitating program activities and cabin activities.
  • Takes an active role in the program implementation and supervision during free choice afternoon programming as assigned and under the guidance of the Program Area Director
    • Possess sufficient skill and knowledge at each Program Area so that you may help campers to participate safely (This may be acquired during pre-camp Staff Training).
  • Support cabin groups, campers, counselors, and other program staff throughout the day (i.e. power up, mealtime, campfire, bedtime, etc.).
  • Work to keep the cabin and campground neat and clean with the participation of campers.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned to support the operation of the camp, including but not limited to:
    • Serve as a driver for leadership, town runs, and/or medical appointments
    • Assist with food service or maintenance
    • Assist with office or administrative tasks
  • Commitment to carry out all assigned activities including but not limited to Campfire, Grace, afternoon announcements, etc.:
  • Strive at all times to work as a team with the rest of the Kiddie Keep Well Camp staff to provide the greatest possible camp experience to ALL campers EVERY day.
  • Participate in all whole-camp activities, and arrive in a timely manner.
  • Cooperated amongst all levels of staff and be flexible to special assignments.
  • Follow all policies as outlined in the Staff Manual
  • Aids in the development and education of Leadership Development Program participants.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with campers, parents, and other staff
  • Encourages physical, and emotional growth and positive character development in all campers
  • Practices cultural humility, striving to actively learn about and be sensitive to all cultures
  • Maintains the cleanliness of their living space (and communal living space) to which they are assigned
  • Cares for and maintains any organ equipment, supplies, and spaces they see (Including program areas, staff lounge, costume closet, keys, etc.). Any observed risks or facilities in disrepair must be immediately reported to the Maintenance or Management Team.
  • Assist with other job duties outside the normal scope of their job description or contract to ensure that programs run smoothly and safely, or are deemed necessary by the Head Counselor or Camp Director.
  • Be a positive influence on campers, leading by example.
  • Be aware of and follow all KKWC policies and procedures
  • Attend all staff camp meetings
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must attend all Camp Counselor training and orientation.

  • Capable of maintaining effective physical, mental, emotional, and social interactions in our group-based youth-centered, and community living program.
  • Willingness to live in a camp setting, and work irregular hours, with daily exposure to the natural environment
  • Visual, auditory, physical, and decision-making ability to calmly and effectively identify and respond to various hazards or emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

         Understanding the mission and goals of Kiddie Keep Well Camp and an appreciation for        living out of doors

          Ability to relate to and work effectively with diverse staff and camper population for          the fulfillment of KKWC

          Experience in leadership and working as a team

          Possess sufficient skills and knowledge in various program areas of camp.       

 Education: High School or GED Diploma preferred

          Must be at least 18 years of age

          Certification in CPR/First Aid or the ability to obtain

          Ability to pass a background check and sex offender registry check
