This position is responsible for performing all the general duties as prescribed in the Correctional Officer job classification. In addition, this position may be delegated the authority and responsibility to direct activities of correctional officers, commensurate with orders of higher authority and within the Meeker County Sheriff's Office Policy and the Meeker County Jail Policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform all duties as described in the Correctional Officers job description.
Assign duties to correctional officers in the absence of the Corrections Sergeant or Jail Administrator.
Oversee normal jail operations or emergencies.
Ensure compliance with meeker County Jail Policy.
Complete daily inspections and make recommendations for the improvement of jail operations and services.
Recommend acts worthy of recognition or discipline to the Corrections Sergeant or Jail Administration.
Actively participate in informal exchanges within the Sheriff's Office.
Review and approve official reports and documents.
Assists in training of correctional officer staff.
Shall be available to assist correctional officers and other personnel to provide guidance and ensure efficient operation of the jail.
Investigates jail incidents and reports to Jail Administrator, Chief Deputy, or Sheriff.
May be assigned special assignments by the Corrections Sergeant, Jail Administrator, Chief Deputy, or Sheriff.
Assigns work direction to correctional officers and civilian personnel on the shift, ensuring they are properly instructed and perform their duties in an acceptable manner consistent with all post orders, policies and procedures, and department directives. Ensures that each officer has a neat uniform appearance and that each is capable of carrying out assigned duties and responsibilities.
Ensure the proper use of equipment, security devises, and other property of the facility.
Ensure, through daily inspections, that living units are being maintained in an appropriate manner by staff supervision and that the highest levels of sanitation are maintained throughout the facility.
Assume responsibility during shift for authorizing the use of force, chemical agents, or security equipment consistent with policies and procedures.
Review initial housing classification and make secondary classifications as necessary.
Assume responsibility for reviewing the use of restraints on inmates in custody.
Coordinate with the Jail Administrator and Program Coordinator to ensure that inmate programs are delivered as scheduled and that any civilian employees, volunteers, or service providers are performing consistent with security and safety procedures.
Assume responsibility for the control and preservation of evidence and contraband seized in the jail.
Assist the Jail Administrator in planning and writing work schedules.
Attend administrative meetings, training, and various administrative functions as directed.

Starting Salary: $21.34 per hour.
