Teacher - Special Education - Teacher Consultant
The Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District is accepting applications for a Great Start Readiness Lead Teacher (Full-Time School Year Position).
Description: Provide instructional and consultative services to assure all students with disabilities receive appropriate educational and support services.
Qualifications:
1. Master’s Degree in Special Education.
2. Valid Teaching Certificate with Special Education Endorsement.
3. Full or temporary approval by the State Board of Education as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (SK).
4. Three or more years of successful classroom experience including at least two years working with special needs students.
5. Valid Michigan driver’s license and ability to travel to local schools throughout Mecosta-Osceola Counties.
6. Knowledge of Braille, Basic Orientation and Mobility, and Adaptive Technology skills.
7. Ability to analyze medical reporting to determine education impact.
8. Knowledge of general education curriculum and accommodations.
9. Ability to properly utilize required assessment instruments and report findings.
10. Ability to design and deliver specialized instruction and support use of assistive technology specific to visual accommodations.
11. Demonstrated consultation skills.
12. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments.
2. Provide assistance and consultation with the identification and effective utilization of appropriate instructional materials and equipment.
3. Coordinate the acquisition or development of assistive equipment and products for assigned students.
4. Work collaboratively with evaluation team members and/or local school staff to evaluate students with suspected disabilities and develop effective academic and behavioral strategies.
5. Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for improved student performance.
6. Communicate assessment findings and recommendations to parents, and school staff; assist the school staff in developing appropriate interventions for improved student performance.
7. Monitor performance and progress of assigned students; update the student’s academic and behavioral plans as needed. 8. Attend the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings and assist in developing IEP goals and objectives.
9. Maintain knowledge of current state and Federal mandates related to the instruction of students with disabilities.
10. Serve as a resource to parents, families, school personnel, community service providers, professional organizations and others.
11. Attend various internal and external meetings relating to special education programs and services.
12. Serve as a liaison to various local, state and national educational and governmental organizations which focus upon the instruction of students with disabilities.comeseratte
13. Assume responsibility to transport self to the assigned worksite(s)
14. Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
15. Pursuant to “School Safety” legislation (2005 PA 129-131 and 138) enacted into law January 1, 2006, must pass a criminal history background investigation conducted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or designee.
