Electrical Engineer I
Kootenai Electric Cooperative is located in scenic North Idaho, the heart of abundant recreational opportunities. Settled in a beautiful lakefront mountain setting, it is a favorite destination for tourists. Just outside our back door are national forests, lakes, rivers, and trails offering plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, boating/water sports, fishing, hunting, golfing, snow sports, and much more. The four distinct seasons offer recreational opportunities year-round. The Coeur d'Alene/Hayden metropolitan area also offers a variety of entertainment and shopping venues and is a short 45-minute drive to Spokane, Washington and access to domestic and international air travel. The purpose of the Engineer I is to provide technical engineering support to the Cooperative.

Job Responsibilities / Essential Functions: Performs electric system analysis and design. Assists in development of system planning documents. Assists with development of material and equipment specifications and purchase contracts. Assists with system protection and addresses system coordination issues. Assists with specification of new and/or upgraded member services. Assists with design of various capital system improvements as required such as substations, transmission lines, communications facilities, and power distribution facilities. Assists with settings, program and test electronic recloser controls, voltage regulator controls, PLC's, relays and other electronic equipment. Meets with members on technical issues. Tracks outages and develops monthly and annual outage statistics. Provides engineering support on capital projects. Coordinates and cooperates with all KEC personnel, the membership, local city, county, and state personnel, other utilities, contractors and vendors as needed. Provides generation scheduling when power plant operator unable to. Tracks analyzes and adjusts generation scheduling as needed.
Non-essential functions: o Performs other duties as directed or required.
Job Requirements Education/Experience:
o Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
o Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) test or pass within 2 years of employment.
Knowledge and Skills:
o Computer literate. Must be knowledgeable of standard office software including but not limited to: MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
o Effective written and verbal communication skills.
o Valid Driver's License Time
o Must be available to work in excess of 12 hours during outage situations.
o Must be available for unscheduled work.
o May be required to be on-call 24/7.
o Must be able to work in stressful conditions.
o Must be able to make decisions with minimal data.
o Must be able to compare, copy, compute, compile, analyze, coordinate, and synthesize.
