Position Summary:
Illumina is looking for a Network Engineer who can demonstrate skills and experience with complex global LAN/WAN network architectures, Enterprise Class Data Centers and AWS Cloud Environments. The candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of network protocols and best practices with respect to highly available and customer-focused networked systems.  Candidate must be able to support our 24X7 global network operations environment while assisting with geographically dispersed projects and initiatives.  Candidate will join a global network team responsible for Cisco LAN/WAN, Cisco & Aruba wireless, F5 load balancing, Riverbed WAN optimization, Cisco & Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco Unified Communications. 

  • Assist in the design and implementation of next generation enterprise LAN, WAN, SDN, Cloud, wireless, load balancing, WAN optimization, Unified Communications, and security architecture and strategies to support business growth
  • Contribute in the design and architecture of Enterprise Networks, Data Centers and AWS
  • Support the global network within the scope of a larger globally-dispersed team in a fast paced environment
  • Ability and desire to grow technical expertise in all areas of network: data, voice, and video quickly and efficiently
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including patches, hot fixes and security configurations
  • Create and update network documentation
  • Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions to solve critical business challenges in a timely manner
  • Adhere to corporate change management policies and practices
  • Perform 24X7 on call responsibilities in a global follow the sun model


  • 5-8 years experience with enterprise-level IT network operations role
  • 5-8 years experience with enterprise-level WAN/LAN network architecture and design
  • 6+ years experience working with a global team
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, ACLs, ZBFW, DMVPN, MPLS, VoIP, QoS, SNMP, VPC, and VSS
  • Hands on experience with AWS
  • In depth knowledge of Cisco IOS/NX-OS configuration and troubleshooting across multiple platforms including routers and switches
  • Solid understanding of VoIP and Cisco Unified Communications, including Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Unity, gatekeepers/gateways, UCCX, and SRST
  • Knowledge of LAN Switching, including VLANs, VLAN trunking, port channels, port security, HSRP, and Spanning Tree
  • Experience in administrating WAN acceleration and load balancing technologies
  • Must have good network routing protocol troubleshooting skills (EIGRP, BGP), switching technologies, firewall technologies, WAN, LAN, and Wi-Fi
  • Understanding of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) a plus
  • Experience with using scripting such as Shell/Python/Ruby to configure networking and automation a plus
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Results oriented and self-motivated with the ability to take ownership of IT projects and deliver them on time and within budget
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Potential for domestic and international travel
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously while dealing with frequent interruptions and working in a high-pressure environment 



  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or engineering preferred
  • Advanced network certification (or equivalent training) preferred, CCNA, CCNP, (CCIE a plus but not required)
  • AWS Advanced Networking Certification a plus
