The Town of Hopkinton seeks a full-time Assistant Town Accountant to assist the Senior Accounting Manager/Town Accountant in the daily operations of the Accounting Department.

Hiring Salary: $57,928 to $69,513 Annually, depending on qualifications Competitive Leave and Benefits package 40 hour work week: Mon, Wed., Thurs.; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. |
Under the direction of the Senior Accounting Manager/Town Accountant, the Assistant Town Accountant provides support to the Senior Accounting Manager/Town Accountant with the day-to-day municipal accounting functions of all town departments including planning, directing, coordinating and maintaining all related financial records through posting to the general ledger. This includes monthly reports, general correspondence, compliance with Massachusetts General Laws, budgets appropriated at Town Meeting, rules and regulations and the organization and preparation necessary for meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree with three to five years experience in finance, accounting or related field with emphasis on automated financial systems and Windows-based software applications; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Ability to communicate and interact effectively, orally and in writing, with various audiences including public officials and the general public;

Handle multiple tasks, determine priorities and meet deadlines; maintain accurate, complex and detailed financial records;

Maintain knowledge and skill in utilizing software programs; MUNIS experience preferred.

Ability and willingness to learn UMAS, GAAP, GAAFR and GASB

Certification as Certified Governmental Accountant (CGA) from Mass. Municipal Auditors and Accountants Association Desirable. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Preferred.
