Environmental Technician

Established in 1891 in north Idaho's Silver Valley, Hecla's rich history has distinguished it as an esteemed precious metals producer. This 127-year-old company mines, processes, and explores for silver and gold throughout North America, including Alaska, Idaho, Washington, Nevada, Quebec and Mexico. We are looking for an Environmental Technician that will be based out of the Silver Valley at our Lucky Friday Mine. The Environmental Technician will be part of a team conducting environmental compliance efforts including sampling, monitoring, analyzing and organizing data, and reporting to maintain environmental compliance. The position will assist with maintaining the requirements of the Environmental Management System, maintaining reporting schedules, and meeting deadlines. Adherence to and promotion of all applicable safety, environmental and regulatory requirements is mandatory. The successful candidate shall have: 1) a degree in Environmental Sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education in an environmental field; 2) must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently; and 3) have problem solving, interpersonal skills, oral/written communication skills, adaptable and dependable and ability to observe safety and security procedures.

The role requires: field environmental monitoring; participating in water quality and other monitoring programs; participates in the operation, equipment maintenance, data acquisition and reporting of the NPDES required monitoring system; coordinates and works extensively with other mining departments and CDA Environmental Services; and must follow and understand MSHA/NRC/IDEQ/IDWR/EPA (including but not limited to RCRA, CRCLA, TSCA, EPCRA) rules and regulations, SOP and work area instructions.
