Accounting Technician

Kinds of Work:
Under general supervision, receives, sorts, corrects, and reconciles a variety of accounting documents such as invoices, payment vouchers, and billings. Posts data to appropriate accounts, reviews and codes financial information, disburses funds, makes deposits and prepares financial reports.
A secondary objective of this position is to perform multi-task purpose office support services. Work is performed by applying knowledge of accounting terminology and through the use of spreadsheets, database software and/or complex computer systems to meet the requirements of all internal and external clientele.
Examples of Work:
Manage, with only general supervision, the write up and posting of receipts and maintaining account balances in the independent electronic receivable systems.
Generate monthly billing statements for clients and/or providers.
Compile various statistical and fiscal reports.
Serve as back up person to the front desk.
Collect outgoing and inter-office mail.
Disburse inter-office mail.
Utilize the postage machine.
Copy and collate documents for workers and clients.
Assist clients who need assistance completing application forms.
Assist staff in locating errors and completing reports.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to accurately to type and file.
Ability to compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness.
Ability to interpret accounting records and documents and prepare information in summary form.
Knowledge of accounting terminology and practices.
Knowledge of business arithmetic.
Knowledge of general record keeping and filing systems.
Knowledge of spreadsheets and database software.
Knowledge of techniques used in locating errors.
Knowledge of the automated accounting system used in the work area.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma, or the equivalent, and two years of experience involving a combination of office support and bookkeeping responsibilities.
Or
Completion of college coursework, vocational school, or business school in accounting may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the experience involving a combination of office support and bookkeeping responsibilities
Rate of Pay: Compensation is $19.93/hour. Full time 40 hours/week. Completion of a Minnesota Merit System application is required.
