Performs inspections, checks testing and sampling procedures for product manufacturing processes. Carries out packaging line, manufacturing inspections and sampling and testing of incoming components and raw materials to ensure that company standards are met. Monitors critical equipment and instrumentation. May draft procedures and assist with validating or troubleshooting testing methods. May apply approval or rejection labels to bulk raw materials once analytical data is evaluated.
Under limited supervision is able to complete duties that include accurate measurement and inspection of optical components using inspection equipment to verify specifications to print according to defined production procedures. Further able to direct inspection related activities based upon supervisory guidance and determine methods to complete tasks. Performs all duties of internal auditor for ISO 9001-2015.
Measure incoming blanks, in process polished optics, final quality inspection of coated optics and optical assemblies
Create, organize and record test and inspection data
Responsibilities of Optical Quality Tech I and II
Directs activities pertinent to work-in-process (WIP) as delegated by immediate supervisor
Suggests improvements in inspection to improve flow and costs
Interprets prints and inspects custom jobs requiring custom jigs, tooling, and measuring equipment and measuring techniques.
Applies optical formulas such as Beer’s Law, Snell’s Law, reflection/transmission relationship, and basic math such simple trigonometry and algebra.
Aligns optics systems for any standard optical measurements.
Conduct, document and report on ISO 9001-2015 internal audits.
High school diploma.
Post High School Vo-Tech or Military training helpful or equivalent on the job training.
Minimum of 5+ years optics inspection experience
Experience in an ISO certified environment a plus
ITAR & EAR compliance a plus
Self-motivated individual who works well in a team orientated environment.
Needs to be able to quickly learn and make good decisions.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
Physical ability to walk and to stand for long periods.
Meticulous attention to detail
Computer applications experience:
Microsoft Office suite
SAP is a plus
Very good understanding of optics quality and testing standards
Able to interpret mechanical specifications and prints and a good understanding of optics drawing tolerancing
Able to read micrometers/calipers and convert between metric and standard units
Must demonstrate complete competence with all processes and procedures.
Must be able to perform the following calculations:
Convert autocollimator measurements in lines to arc minutes and degrees and vice versa.
Know what Brewster’s Angle is and how it affects light.
Calculate the angle of a part when using a laser using the appropriate equations for both wedged optics and parallel optics.
Identify all optics and their function.
Align all optic systems.
Make a significant contribution and improvement to the development of the Quality Control Department
