The Craig Press needs an energetic reporter to cover a variety of beats and topics, including public safety, government, community news, the environment and general assignment stories. We value integrity, teamwork and a commitment to the community, in addition to being able to handle the pressures of a newsroom.

Responsibilities will include writing well-sourced, accurate news reports, in addition to producing shorter staff reports and news briefs. We will expect you to ensure accuracy, fairness and correct spelling and grammar in all your reporting duties, along with taking photos, sharing content on social media and following the direction and vision of the publisher and editor. Craig is a small and friendly rural community in Northwest Colorado that is truly off the beaten path. The city is surrounded by millions of acres of public land, where there are endless places to camp and miles of trails for hiking, biking and riding. Moffat County is full of adventure for anyone who loves the outdoors. Much of our wilderness is situated in a high desert landscape, setting a perfect stage for off-roading or just plain exploring. The Yampa River runs through Craig and Moffat County, offering opportunities for river rafting, paddleboarding, fishing and swimming in the spring and summer. During the winter, Craig has tons of places for snowshoeing, cross country skiing and hunting. It’s also less than an hour away from a world-class ski resort. Qualified applicants should have a journalism degree, a degree in a similar field or applicable experience. Applicants should also have a deep knowledge of AP style; the availability to work some nights, weekends and holidays; a current driver’s license and transportation; and most importantly, a serious desire to perform quality community journalism.

Salary Range: $32,000-$39,000
