Henrico County seeks an experienced, results-oriented, visionary leader and exceptional communicator to serve as Chief of Police. Working under the direction of the County Manager, the Chief of Police serves a vibrant county with a diverse population of more than 335,000 residents.
The Chief will provide executive leadership to the Police Division. The incumbent will lead established community-policing programs and other initiatives that reduce crime; maintain stateof-the art technical expertise and resources; and develop business and community partnerships. The Chief will embrace and build on current customer-service initiatives and cultivate existing collaborative relationships with local, regional, state and federal law enforcement partners.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Extensive knowledge of police administration and of police methods; extensive knowledge of scientific methods of crime detection, criminal identification and radio communication; extensive knowledge of controlling laws and ordinances; extensive knowledge of Henrico County geography; demonstrated ability to lead and direct the activities of police personnel; ability to maintain cooperative relationships with other County officials and with the general public; high social intelligence; resourcefulness and sound judgment in emergencies; demonstrated integrity; tact.
- Minimum education and experience: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or a related field and 10 years of police experience, including five years in a supervisory position of Police Captain or above.
