Adventurers wanted! The City of Wentzville is seeking a Full Time Emergency Management Specialist. This position coordinates Emergency Management processes with and through the St. Charles County Emergency Management staff.

Essential & Ancillary Job Duties
Essential Job Duties
- Understand and perform basic Division functions, to include operation and testing of Division systems and equipment; communications and public alerting systems, vehicles and deployable assets
- Function as the liaison for the municipality in the coordination of emergency management projects and issues
- Collaborate with Division staff members in their assigned specialty areas
- Qualify as a Division Duty Officer and participate in the Duty Officer rotation
- When the Emergency Operations Center is activated, perform the duties of the assigned general staff or Emergency Support Function (ESF) position, as assigned.
- Operate standard office equipment
- Under the designation of critical personnel, be available for 24 hour recall.
- Certify as a licensed amateur radio operator (technician class)
- Assist different departments within the City with continuity of operations planning and operating procedures to be used in response to disaster and emergencies, including recovery from these events.
- Maintain and update all resource materials associated with emergency preparedness plans.
- Develop and perform test and evaluations of emergency management plans in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct quarterly maintenance on City of Wentzville owned Outdoor Warning System to include visual inspection, battery maintenance, and system testing.
- Maintain the City of Wentzville-owned Outdoor Warning System by evaluating new siren locations, purchasing and managing replacement and repair of equipment, and supervising vendor installation of equipment as needed.
- Monitor Weather conditions during local City of Wentzville events.
- Will be responsible for facilitating and instructing training related to Emergency Management, including NIMS

Job Qualifications & Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Job Qualifications – Education, experience and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
- Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Emergency Management, and completion of a federally approved course work in emergency management required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
- Incident Command System series (ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800) training required within 12 months of employment.
- FEMA Professional Development Series (PDS) training required within 12 months of employment
- FEMA Advanced Professional Development Series (APS) training required within 12 months of employment.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) series for EOC Personnel training required within 12 months of employment and become a certified instructor.
- IS 247 Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) training required within 12 months of employment.
- Obtain and maintain FAA Part 107 certification

- Considerable knowledge of federal, state and local legislation and guidelines used in emergency management operations and programs.
- Considerable knowledge of methods, procedures, and practices used in planning and presenting training classes
- Considerable knowledge of procedures and practices in emergency management programs.
- Considerable knowledge of hazardous materials terminology and usage, seismic, geological and atmospheric sciences.
- Considerable skill in writing, editing and reviewing procedures, plans operating manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Considerable skill in public speaking and teaching methods for safety and emergency management programs.
- Considerable ability to readily comprehend and manipulate various computer word processing, desktop publishing and data base programs.
- Considerable ability to follow oral and written directions
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty.
