Accountant

City of East Chicago - Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - Contractual

The Certified Public Accountant assists in guiding financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and operational procedures within the department. The Certified Public Accountant supports the preparation of budgets by collecting data, analyzing information, and making recommendations to the Controller. The Certified Public Accountant is responsible for the organization’s financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable and receivable, and tax and legal requirements. The Certified Public Accountant oversees staff activities to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, public administration or related and four years of responsible financial management experience including responsibility for financial reporting required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required. MBA or public administration and experience working for or with organizations in the public sector preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Accountant- The Accountant assists in monitoring, and enforcing policies and operational procedures within the department and City. The Accountant assists in the preparation of budgets by collecting data and analyzing information. The Accountant assists in all finance activities, including accounts receivable and payable, and in guiding and providing financial oversight for the City departments. The Accountant assists in managing staff activities to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, public administration or related and four years of responsible financial management experience including responsibility for financial reporting required, but preferably in a municipal or non-profit environment. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
