The City of Canon City is accepting applications for the position of City Administrator.
Under general direction from the City Council, manages, oversees, directs and implements the executive and administrative operations of the City and oversees approximately 160 employees in 11 administrative departments, and an annual budget of $39.7 million.
Qualifications for this position are a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Management, or related field (Master's degree preferred); or five years public administration experience in a municipal setting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and ability. - Manages, oversees and directs all City departments, including Administration, Community Development, Human Resources, Engineering, Finance, Library, Museum, Parks, Police, and Public Works. Delegates management authority through Department Heads. Develops plans to implement City Council policies and goals. Guides strategic planning for City’s operations and programs. Prepares and implements strategies for efficient and effective delivery of routine and non-routine services to residents, businesses, and visitors.
- Hires or approves hiring of all City employees (except City Attorney and Municipal Judge). Directs, advises, and counsels supervisory personnel. Writes and conducts employee performance evaluations, and approves disciplinary actions. Assigns work and monitors its progress. Guides and develops employees in the accomplishment of their duties and career growth.
