Community Development Director
Salary Range: $56,461 - $97,513 DOE/DOQ
The City of Bristol, Virginia is a progressive community nestled among the Southwest Virginia mountains with a population of approximately 17,000 and it has an excellent opportunity for the position of Director of Community Development and Planning. The position reports to the City Manager and is part of the staff for the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Bristol Metropolitan Planning Organization, and advises the City Council on zoning and subdivision matters. The Director is responsible for the administration of the Department, the Building Code division, the CDBG Program plus other grants and programs as directed by the City Manager. The Director prepares the annual budget for the department, Comprehensive Plan, zoning and subdivision ordinances. Supervises the employees of the department and enforces the zoning and subdivision ordinances. The director is the local contact for U.S. Department of the Census and serves as the City's floodplain manager. Bachelor's Degree in Planning or related field required. Four years of progressively responsible experience with a strong background in urban planning, including two years in an administrative or supervisory capacity preferred. American Institute of Certified Planning certification and valid driver's license are required. Subject to a background check.
