This position is responsible for the appropriate intake and assessment of learners and serves as a resource for all instructional staff. This position is grant-funded. Incumbent may be required to work evening hours on occasion, as needed.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree required or 3 years of adult education and assessment experience required
Minimum of one year of experience in an MSDE-funded adult education program required
Adult education teaching experience required
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required
Previous experience administering standardized tests required

Examples of Duties

- Works collaboratively with the Program Director, the MIS Specialist, and the Instructional Specialist.
- Conducts and accurately documents intake and assessment orientation.
- Conducts assessment sessions including documenting learner’s goals, literacy level assessments, and pre-tests, and provides the necessary referrals to support services and/or outside agencies.
- Working with Program Director to develop and coordinate local policies and procedures for assessment and placement of learners in appropriate level classes at appropriate educational functioning levels.
- Communicating with learners and instructors/tutors regarding placement, progress, and attendance issues.
- Ordering, inventorying, and maintaining security of test materials.
- Working together with the Instructional Specialist to address the special needs of enrolled learners, including people with disabilities and English language learners
- Updates documented wait lists.
- Collaborate with the Program Director to identify training needs for assessment and intake, and help coordinate activities to address those needs.
- Assisting with the development and execution of the program’s Data Quality Plan.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
State Level Duties Include:
- Attends State Intake/Assessment Specialist meetings, Train the Trainer, and State Professional Development.
- Documents and shares pertinent information with the appropriate local staff.
- Under the direction of the supervisor, provides training of new IAS in neighboring programs in the same geographic region.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree required or 3 years of adult education and assessment experience required
- Minimum of one year of experience in an MSDE-funded adult education program required
- Adult education teaching experience required
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required
- Previous experience administering standardized tests required
- Experience delivering professional development/training preferred
- Counseling experience preferred
- Knowledge of CASAS assessments
- Knowledge of all Literacy, Adult and Community Education System (LACES) data elements and local program’s Intake and Update Forms
- Knowledge of training procedures for administration and interpretation of approved assessments

Physical Requirements

- Most of the job is sedentary, however, occasional periods of light work may be required;
- Lifting up to approximately 35 lbs. occasionally.
- The worker may be exposed to primarily to inside office conditions.
- Visual acuity appropriate for an administrative position,
- Hearing, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching – occasionally,
- Climbing stairs – occasionally,
- Walking, frequently,
- Occasional travel may be required
