Under supervision of the Wastewater Supervisor or Utilities Manager the Collections System
Worker must perform a variety of duties including wastewater collection system cleaning, and
obstacle clearing work using a high pressure jet and other specialized equipment; repair and
maintain electrical and mechanical equipment; investigate complaints concerning the wastewater
collection system; perform maintenance and repair of sewage collection system; operate vehicles,
light and medium construction equipment; and to perform other duties as assigned or required.

◆ Inspects, checks, cleans, maintains, and repairs the wastewater collection system, which includes
all pump stations, generator units, telemetry, pipes, valves, and all other appurtenances found in a
complete collection system.
◆ Installs and inspects the work of contractors performing work to the District's wastewater collection
◆ Enters sewers, manholes, wet wells and pump stations, observing proper safety precautions;
inspects and cleans the interiors of sewers, manholes, wet wells and pump stations.
◆ Performs duties as directed in the operation and maintenance of the sewer inspection and cleaning
◆ Learns to operate a variety of mechanical equipment and hand tools, such as: jackhammer, jet
rodder, sectional rodder, tamper, blowers, gas detectors, air compressors and flow meters.
◆ Repair and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment such as: pumps, motors, switch gear,
motor control centers, meters, diesel driven generator sets and all other equipment related to the
collection system.
◆ Perform electrical and mechanical repair and maintenance work on wastewater treatment plant
and disposal facilities as needed.
◆ Perform related duties in other departments in the District as needed.
◆ Assist in the installation and set-up of new equipment.
◆ Assist in the ordering of parts, materials and supplies.
◆ Must be able to follow directions and maintain good working relationships with others.
◆ All other duties as assigned.

◆ Will be required to work overtime, stand-by at night, weekends and holidays.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Maintenance and repair methods related to the tasks stated under Examples
of Duties.
ABILITY TO: Perform maintenance, repair and record keeping tasks indicated in Examples of
Duties. Interpret technical manuals, drawings and specifications, including blueprints and
schematics. Handle a variety of duties without close supervision. Apply common sense and
understanding to carry out instructions given in oral, written or diagrammatic form. Learn and
perform the required duties.
EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates
possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform the duties of the
position. A minimum of 1-year experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs is
EDUCATION: High School Graduate or G.E.D.
1. Must possess a valid California Class A or B driver’s license and maintain the ability to be insured.
2. Ability to obtain a Grade 2 Collection Maintenance Certification and have possession of the
certificate within 2 years of hire date.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to respond to an emergency within 45 minutes from
time notified of an emergency, in a safe manner.
