Position Title: Power Supply Engineer I or II
Department/Location: Asset Management, Resource Planning, and Rates; Bismarck, ND

Position Purpose:
Power Supply Engineer I - This position is responsible for assisting experienced Utility Planning staff with evaluating the technical and economic conditions of various resource expansions, long-term power sale and purchase alternatives, and assist in conducting studies to determine long-term electric market values and expected generation levels of the Cooperative’s resources and completion of required regulatory filings. The incumbent assists in supporting the development of strategies in the furtherance of meeting the Cooperative’s long term power supply planning objectives. The incumbent assists in conducting studies for the development of Basin Electric’s Integrated Resource Plan and assists in completing various required regulatory filings. Assists in supporting research and development direction in which technologies are most likely to generate the lowest long-term costs to the Cooperative and its member/owners.
Power Supply Engineer II - This position is responsible for evaluating the technical and economic conditions of long-term power supply planning activities that include, but is not limited to, various resource expansions and long-term power sale and purchase alternatives, as well as that involving existing power supply sources. The incumbent conducts studies for the development of strategies in the furtherance of meeting the Cooperative’s long-term power supply planning objectives. The incumbent conducts studies for the development of Basin Electric’s Integrated Resource Plan and completes various required regulatory filings. Work asignments are varied and somewhat difficult, requiring originality and ingenuity.
Qualifications:
Power Supply Engineer I - To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have knowledge of engineering principles and practices acquired through completion of a four-year degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited electrical engineering program. The ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills is required. Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel is required.
Power Supply Engineer II - To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have knowledge of engineering principles and practices acquired through completion of a four-year degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited electrical engineering program and three years of related engineering experience. An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) certificate is required. The ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills is required. Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel is required.
Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:
This position requires frequent sitting; and occasional standing/walking, bending/reaching, climbing, kneeling, crawling, use of keyboard/computer, pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. This position also requires finger dexterity, hand coordination, good hearing, and color vision. It also requires the ability to analyze data/reports and conduct research; implement recommendations; develop plans, procedures, and goals; and present information to others. The incumbent may be required to work under pressure due to conflicting priorities and deadlines. This position occasionally works in conditions of dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat/cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, and confined areas. The incumbent must be respirator qualified and able to operate a motor vehicle. The incumbent may also be required to work at heights up to 600 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. Travel is required, either by motor vehicle or traveling in Cooperative or commercial plane.
