Medical Assistant - Cardiology Clinic

The Cardiology Medical Assistant provides clinical care and assists with administrative duties under the direction of the Charge Nurse, other clinic staff and the Cardiology providers.
Primary Scope of Responsibilities:
- Function as a team member of the Cardiology clinic staff.
- Room clinic visit patients, obtain vital signs, complete required documentation in the electronic medical record, advise provider of any concerning or unusual findings during assessment.
- Room Coumadin patients, obtain pertinent required data and document in the electronic medical record. Perform Point of Care INR waived testing. Able to discern normal INR result values, report findings of abnormal bleeding, recent falls, or other concerning findings during patient assessment. Perform phlebotomy as needed for necessary laboratory testing. Provide Coumadin education, as needed.
- Assist nursing staff with management of patient phone calls and other administrative duties as assigned.
- Assist with patient chart preparation prior to clinic visits. Obtain patient medical data and pertinent diagnostic results, enter in electronic medical record.
- Obtain EKG on all new clinic patients and as requested by provider.
- Provide pertinent patient education under the direction of the charge nurse and/or provider.
- Apply remote monitoring devices to patient and provide education and references for patient problem solving.
- Assist with receptionist, registration, and scheduling duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
- Relatively high degree of analytical abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
- Proficient in basic computer skills.
- Knowledgeable in the use of medical terminology preferred.
Education/Certification Requirements:
- High school graduate diploma or equivalent required.
- College degree preferred or equivalent minimum of 2 years job-related experience.
- BLS required, may obtain once employed.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Phlebotomy skills preferred.
