Alma Public Schools is seeking an accountant for our Central Office.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess at least an Associate’s Degree in the field of accounting or finance or have equivalent experience, Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in business administration or accounting, Meet requirements for background check and fingerprinting, Prior school district experience preferred.

Summary of Duties: The accountant works closely with the Finance Director to support the financial operation of the District. Primary areas of knowledge and responsibility include cash receipts, general ledger accounting and reconciliation, grant accounting and State reporting. A successful candidate will be able to: Relate to and communicate with finance director, staff, parents and students, Maintain a positive and professional work environment, Work collaboratively with the finance director and Central Office staff, Maintain a high level of confidentiality Assist Finance Director with yearly audit, Complete monthly transfers in the finance and banking system, Complete journal entries, as needed, Complete all month end reconciliation processes, including, but not limited to, tracing all cash receipts and journal entries between bank accounts and finance system, recording interest earnings and preparing bank reconciliations, Work with athletic directors on the maintenance of Arbiter, Complete various State and Federal reports, including, but not limited to: Financial Information Database (FID), monthly sales and withholding tax, annual sales tax return, quarterly Michigan Administrative Outreach Program (MIAOP) Reports, School Bond Loan Fund borrowing and/or repayment forms, and Small Taxpayer Exemption Loss (Form 5192) in coordination with financial advisor, Complete cash flow and work with legal firm on State Aid Note Borrowing, Assist with annual financial statement audit preparation, Initiate and process semi-annual debt payments, Complete and distribute annual L-4029 Tax Rate Request Form, Update property tax allocation worksheet, Assist with completion of internal control reviews of building and departments, Monitor building petty cash
COMPENSATION: Full time, full year position. Wage range $18-$20/hour depending on experience. Full benefits package.
